Alinghi, the Defender of the 32nd America’s Cup has sold SUI75, currently on exhibition in the America’s Cup Park, to the new British challenge TeamOrigin. The racing yacht was drawn by the Alinghi design team of 12 leading yacht designers and engineers and took 18,000 man hours to build at Décision Boatyard in Vevey, Switzerland. She left Switzerland on 6 March 2002 and was launched in New Zealand. Considered more conservative in hull form than SUI64, she has many innovative details in her structure and construction. SUI75 was modified to comply with Version 5.0 of the America’s Cup Rule and won the title of America’s Cup Class Champion in 2005, the racing yacht continued to be highly competitive against the challengers’ new boats in 2006. Grant Simmer, managing director and design team coordinator comments: “SUI75 has been a great asset to the team. She has always performed well for us and will be a great platform for TeamOrigin to launch their challenge for the 33rd America’s Cup. We wish them luck with her and with their challenge.”
